    Call For Legal Fellowship Candidates

    CALL FOR LEGAL FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES
Applications reviewed on a rolling basis

Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (“CLSEPA”) seeks post-graduate law fellows with independent funding and/or candidates for the Skadden and Equal Justice Works Fellowships to start in Fall 2017.

CLSEPA is a non-profit, legal services agency that combines policy advocacy and impact litigation with direct legal services. We serve low-income and working-class populations, predominately communities of color, in East Palo Alto and the mid-Peninsula in the areas of housing, employment, consumer, re-entry, and immigration law. Our mission is to provide transformative legal services that enable these communities to achieve a secure and thriving future.

CLSEPA has successfully hosted Skadden and Equal Justice Works Fellows in recent years. CLSEPA is interested in potentially sponsoring a project in one, or a combination, of the following areas. Prior experience in one of these areas is not required, but a strong interest and enthusiasm to learn certainly is.

    • Re-entry
    • Workers’ Rights
    • Legal Support for Small Businesses

We are particularly interested in proposals that involve the intersection of workers' rights, re-entry issues, and/or non-traditional business entities such as worker cooperatives, but also willing to consider separate ideas for any of the fields mentioned above.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A member in good standing with the California State Bar or willingness to take the California Bar Exam upon graduation
    • Ability to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner
    • Spanish-speaking candidates strongly preferred

    TO APPLY:

Please send a resume, cover letter, writing sample, and list of three references to fellowship@clsepa.org or to CLSEPA, Attention: Fellowship, 1861 Bay Road, East Palo Alto, CA 94303. The cover letter should describe your interests in one or more of the above project areas, as well as the qualifications, background, and/or experiences that demonstrate your commitment and ability to work effectively with low-income populations and communities of color.

CLSEPA is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that provides equal employment opportunities to all qualified employees/applicants in all of our employment practices without regard to race, religion, color, sex or gender (including gender identity, pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, pregnancy- and childbirth-related medical conditions), sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, uniform-service member/veteran status, marital status, medical condition, physical or mental disability, taking/requesting statutorily protected leave, or any other basis protected by law.
